I am 48 and going through menopause, skipping periods, insomnia, heavy bleeding and anxiety. I started taking the Menopause Symptoms Formula in November 2015 and used it for 3 months full dose. Wow...I really noticed my insomnia disappeared and slept so much better and I felt much calmer!! I have had 3 periods in a row now, which have been normal. I am going to stay on this formula for a while, because I sleep so much better and feel so good emotionally!!** ---Cami

What are menopausal symptoms?

Menopause is the permanent end of menstruation and fertility. It can take 2-5 years for menopause to complete, and is defined as having occurred if you have had no menstrual period for 12 months. It indicates the time in a woman’s life during which she makes the transition from a reproductive to non-reproductive stage due to a decline in ovarian function. During ”the change”, some women may experience few or no symptoms of menopause, while others experience multiple physical and psychological symptoms including irregular vaginal bleeding, hot flashes and night sweats, vaginal dryness, trouble sleeping, mood swings, depression, fatigue, headaches, thinning hair, loss of libido, weight gain, and problems with concentration or memory. In the United States, the average age of menopause is 51. Most women reach menopause between the ages of 45 and 55.

What are the causes of menopausal symptoms?

Menopause is not a disease; it is a natural decline in the levels of reproductive hormones that regulate menstruation – namely estrogen and progesterone -  that begins to occur as you approach your late 30s. These changes become more pronounced in your 40s. Your menstrual periods may become irregular until eventually, your ovaries stop producing eggs altogether, and you have no more periods. Some women may experience discomforting symptoms during these changes because of the hormone imbalance. Emotional stress can also aggravate the conditions.

How does Chinese medicine manage menopausal symptoms?

In the Chinese medical perspective, menopausal symptoms are generally due to a decline in the yin or yang of your kidney essence, which is related to hormone production. We use Chinese herbal medicine to harmonize your kidney’s yin and yang in order to balance your hormone levels and ensure that your menopause goes smoothly.

What’s the difference between Chinese herbal medicine and HRT in treating menopausal symptoms?

HRT is a synthetic hormone. It is difficult to find correct dosage for each individual. This can make the symptoms worse in a period of time, rather than making improvement. Once you start to use HRT, you may need to keep using it for many years or the rest of your life in order to manage your symptoms. Also, it can increase your risk of breast cancer, heart disease, and stroke.

Chinese herbal medicine does not replace your hormones. It helps balance your whole body system and stimulate your body to produce the right hormones which your body actually need. Therefore, you will have smooth transition into your menopause. Your overall heath will be improved as well. Your only need to take up to three months of the herbal medicine to clear up all those symptoms permanently. There is no side effect at all.

Who will benefit from our Chinese herbal medicine for menopausal symptoms?

  1. Women from the age of 45 who start to see some changes in their menstrual periods.
  2. Women from the age of 45 who begin to experience some of the symptoms we have described above.

How long do I need to take the Menopause Symptoms Formula to see results?

Usually, you will see some improvement within two weeks. It may take 1 to 2 months to eradicate menopausal symptoms completely.

Nutrition tips for Menopause:

To manage hot flashes, night sweats and sleeping problems:

Pomegranate: Contains more estrogen than any other plant source and may also contain homologs of human hormones. It is a rich source of safe bioactive phytoestrogens as well as being a strong antioxidant. Phytoestrogens also appear to reduce the risk of estrogen-linked cancers, such as breast cancer.
Soy: A very high source of phytoestrogens.
Black bean: An alternative to soy bean, it contains about the same level of phytoestrogens.
Flaxseed: Contains a large amount of omega-3 fatty acids and has antioxidant properties, which may stimulate your period by balancing the levels of estrogen and progesterone in the body.
Other foods: beans, yam, celery, apple, carrot and seaweed are also rich in phytoestrogens.

To manage mood swings:

Depression is often associated with a low level of serotonin. Eating foods that are rich in carbohydrates can help to raise your levels of serotonin, thereby alleviating the depression. Foods rich in carbohydrates include wheat, whole grains, lean protein, dairy products, fruits and vegetables.

To improve the quality of sleep:

Increase your intake of magnesium-rich foods such as salmon, halibut, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, soybeans, black beans and spinach. Cut back on alcohol and caffeine during the day and avoid them during the evening.

To prevent heart disease:

Omega-3 fatty acid may help to prevent serious health problems such as heart disease, cancer and rheumatoid arthritis. Foods rich in Omega-3 include salmon, tuna, mackerel, lake trout, sardines, nuts and flaxseed. Try to increase the amount of fruit and vegetables that you eat – they will help to cleanse your arteries as well as provide vitamins and nutrients that are beneficial to your system.

To Prevent Osteoporosis:

Calcium helps to protect your bones from fracture or breakage and menopausal women should be getting 1200mg to 1500mg of calcium every day. Low fat yogurt, milk and soy milk are good sources of calcium, as well as cheese, salmon, sardines, prunes, figs and leafy green vegetables.
